Coding & Robotics
In this class we use game-based learning systems so that our students can learn the basics of coding and logical thinking. All of the resources we use for this age are block-based coding languages and are self-paced. The students will be able to move as quickly or as slowly as they need to throughout the course and an instructor is there to guide the students through the game by helping them come up with the answer on their own. Some non-screen based activities will also help to reinforce the things we’re learning. We also will be spending time familiarizing ourselves with our technology which can sometimes be one of the biggest hurdles our younger students have. Some of the skills they will learn include: usernames and logins, computer/tablet basics, block-coding, algorithms, debugging, logic, animation, problem-solving, and more.
In this class we will be learning the basic building blocks of coding using JavaScript. The course is self-paced with guided video instruction so that each student can learn at their own speed. The instructor is there to help guide the students through the activities and help them to answer the problem all on their own. We also will be spending time familiarizing ourselves with our technology which can sometimes be one of the biggest hurdles our younger students have. Some of the skills they will learn include: usernames and logins, computer basics, variables, algorithms, debugging, logic, animation, loops, problem-solving, and more.

This is a hands on STEM course in which students will work on foundational skills for building and programming robots using the Lego WeDo Robotics system and software. They will practice problem-solving, engineering, coding and math. The Lego WeDo system is a self contained programming platform and education system. Using the built in building instructions contained within the app, students will learn how to build robots with moving parts, gears, sensors, and interactivity. After a proven mastery within certain skills, students are given the opportunity to design, build, and program their own robots.
